What it does

Selling software or a digital service means more than taking payment. You also need a way to confirm that each user actually bought the product, cap how many sites or devices they can use it on and get updates only to paying customers. This plugin handles that inside WooCommerce, so product settings, orders and customer access all live in the store you already run.

When an order is placed, the plugin generates an API key and links it to the customer's purchase. Your software calls the REST API to validate that key, check its status, list products and fetch updates, and you can work with it from any programming language. An included PHP library speeds up the work for WordPress plugins and themes. It connects with WooCommerce Subscriptions for recurring billing, and a migration tool helps stores moving away from the WooCommerce Software Add-on.

Best for

  • Developers selling WordPress plugins or themes
  • SaaS and mobile app vendors running WooCommerce stores
  • Stores selling subscription access to digital services

Features

Automatic API key generation

API keys are issued as soon as a customer completes a purchase, so only buyers who paid can use your software or digital service.

RESTful API

Validate keys, check status, list products and deploy updates programmatically through a REST API that works with any programming language.

Renewal reminder emails

Built-in emails go out 30, 7 and 1 day before a subscription expires, with a follow-up message sent after it has expired.

Upgrades and downgrades

Customers can move to a different subscription tier or raise their usage limit, and billing is pro-rated for the change.

Software update delivery

Ship bug fixes and new features with auto-update support, using secure file links hosted on Amazon S3, remote URLs or your own server.

WooCommerce Subscriptions support

Works with WooCommerce Subscriptions and its supported billing gateways to collect recurring payments and manage manual or automated renewals.

Conversion of existing products

Turn existing WooCommerce products and past orders into API-managed resources through product settings, with order items created automatically.

Migration from Software Add-on

Import data from the WooCommerce Software Add-on so current customers can move over to the new setup without disruption.

Questions about API Manager for WooCommerce

Does this plugin need WooCommerce?

Yes. It runs on WooCommerce and uses your store's products and orders to create API keys. For recurring billing, it also works with the WooCommerce Subscriptions extension and the payment gateways that extension supports.

Can I use it with software that isn't written in PHP?

Yes. The REST API can be called from any programming language, so desktop software, mobile apps and SaaS products can validate keys and check for updates. A PHP library is also included for WordPress plugins and themes.

Can I limit how many sites or devices a customer uses?

Yes. You set usage limits per product, and the API enforces them when your software checks in. Customers can also upgrade to a higher limit or a different tier, with pro-rated billing for the difference.

I already sell products through the WooCommerce Software Add-on. Can I switch?

There is a migration tool that imports your data from the WooCommerce Software Add-on. Existing WooCommerce products and orders can also be converted into API-managed resources, so current customers keep their access.

Is API Manager for WooCommerce free?

The code of API Manager for WooCommerce is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan or a single purchase gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.

Which version of API Manager for WooCommerce is this?

Version 3.8.1, released Sep 23, 2026. New versions appear here when the developer publishes them, and members get them as automatic updates.

How do I update API Manager for WooCommerce?

What does API Manager for WooCommerce need?
