What it does
Default WooCommerce category pages often make customers click into a category, then a subcategory, then another, before they see a single product. On a store with a deep catalog, that adds a lot of steps. This plugin changes the display so products appear grouped under their subcategories on the same page, giving shoppers a tree-like view of what you sell. It requires WooCommerce and works from the WooCommerce settings, so you can configure it without writing code.
You decide where the nested layout applies: the main shop page, specific category pages, or both. You can also set how many products appear under each subcategory, which helps you balance a quick overview against a fuller listing. Products without a subcategory show at the top of the page, and items assigned to both a parent and a subcategory are placed in the right nested spot. It works with most WooCommerce themes and the Genesis Framework, and its templates can be overridden for custom designs.
Best for
- WooCommerce stores with deep category and subcategory trees
- Shops wanting browsable catalog pages with fewer clicks
- Developers building custom WooCommerce or Genesis themes
Features
Shop and catalog pages list products under their subcategory headings, so customers can browse a whole branch of your catalog on one page.
Apply the nested layout to the shop page, selected category pages, or both, while other parts of the store keep their normal display.
Set how many products appear under each subcategory to suit the size of your inventory and the look you want for each page.
Products that have no subcategory are displayed at the top of the page, so they stay visible alongside the grouped listings.
When a product belongs to both a parent category and a subcategory, the plugin places it in the appropriate nested location.
Works with most WooCommerce themes and with the Genesis Framework, so it fits into existing store designs without complex adjustments.
The overrideable architecture lets theme builders and developers adjust the output to match a custom store design or workflow.

Questions about Nested Category Layout
Do I have to use the nested layout on every category?
No. You can pick which category pages use the nested display, and choose whether it applies to the main shop page as well. Pages you leave out keep the standard WooCommerce layout.
What happens to products that are not in a subcategory?
Products without a subcategory are shown automatically at the top of the page. That way they remain visible above the grouped subcategory sections instead of being left out of the listing.
Will it work with my theme?
It is compatible with most WooCommerce themes and with the Genesis Framework. Because its architecture is overrideable, a developer can also adjust the templates if your theme needs a custom look.
Can I limit how many products appear in each group?
Yes. You can configure the number of products shown per subcategory, which helps keep large pages manageable or lets you show more items when you want a fuller view.
Is Nested Category Layout free?
The code of Nested Category Layout is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan or a single purchase gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.
Which version of Nested Category Layout is this?
Version 1.20.3, released Jun 17, 2026. New versions appear here when the developer publishes them, and members get them as automatic updates.
How do I update Nested Category Layout?
Install the free GPL Feast Updater on your site and connect it with your API key. It installs new versions of Nested Category Layout automatically and keeps a backup, so you can roll back.
What does Nested Category Layout need?
Nested Category Layout needs WooCommerce installed and active.
