What’s new in Subdomain Endpoints for AMP 1.1.8

Version 1.1.8 · May 8, 2023 Latest
  • NewAdded new URL Format 'website.com/date/amp/post/'.

What it does

By default, AMP versions of your pages usually live at a URL with an amp suffix or query added to the end. That works, but it may not match how you want your site structured or branded. This extension for the AMPforWP ecosystem gives you other options. You can pick any subdomain name for your AMP content, or shift the AMP segment into the path itself, as in website.com/amp/article/. A date based format, website.com/date/amp/post/, is also available for sites that use dates in their permalinks.

Setup is short. You choose your custom endpoint in the settings, save your permalinks, and your AMP URLs update to the new structure without manual edits to individual posts. If you change your mind later, endpoint support can be switched on or off from the control panel at any time. This makes it a practical fit for site owners already running AMPforWP who want their mobile URLs to follow the same logic as the rest of their site.

Best for

  • WordPress sites already running AMPforWP
  • Publishers wanting AMP content on a branded subdomain
  • Blogs using date based permalink structures

Features

Custom subdomain for AMP

Serve your AMP pages from a dedicated subdomain such as amp.yoursite.com, keeping AMP content clearly separated while staying under your own domain.

Any subdomain name

Choose whatever subdomain name suits your branding. You are not tied to amp as the label, so the AMP address can match your naming conventions.

AMP segment mid-path

Move the AMP indicator into the middle of the URL, for example website.com/amp/article/, to fit site architectures where a trailing amp suffix does not suit.

Date based URL format

Use the website.com/date/amp/post/ format so AMP URLs line up with permalink structures that include dates in the path.

Simple endpoint setup

Set your custom AMP endpoint from the settings without complicated configuration, so people without much technical background can change their AMP URL structure.

On and off toggle

Enable or disable endpoint support at any time with a single control panel option, which makes it easy to test a structure or revert to the default.

Automatic permalink update

Once you save your permalinks after setting an endpoint, AMP URLs across the site update to the new structure with no manual edits needed.

Questions about Subdomain Endpoints for AMP

Does this work on its own or do I need AMPforWP?

It is built as an extension for the AMPforWP ecosystem. It changes how AMPforWP AMP URLs are structured, so it is meant for sites that already use AMPforWP to generate their AMP pages.

Can I name the subdomain something other than amp?

Yes. You can use any subdomain name you like for your AMP pages. amp.yoursite.com is just one example, and you are free to pick a label that fits your branding.

What URL formats can I choose from?

You can serve AMP from a custom subdomain, place the AMP segment in the middle of the path such as website.com/amp/article/, or use the date based format website.com/date/amp/post/.

Do I have to edit my existing posts after changing the endpoint?

No. After you set the custom endpoint and save your permalinks, your AMP URLs update automatically to reflect the new structure. You can also turn endpoint support off later if you want to go back.
