What’s new in WPML String Translation 5.1.0

Version 5.1.0 · Oct 1, 2026 Latest

What it does

Translating posts and pages covers only part of a multilingual site. Menu labels, widget titles, error messages and the text that ships with your theme and plugins often stay in the original language, which leaves visitors with a half-translated experience. This addon fills that gap by giving you a place in the dashboard to translate every one of those strings, without opening PO files or writing code.

It works alongside the WPML Multilingual CMS and Agency packages and uses the same interface. The addon detects untranslated strings and lists them for you, and you can turn on detection for logged-out visitors to catch more text while setting up translations. Strings that are hard to find, such as those in settings or user profiles, can be registered manually. When you work with a team, strings can go to translators through the Translation Management dashboard. It suits online stores and multilingual blogs alike.

Best for

  • Multilingual WordPress sites already running WPML
  • Online stores serving customers in several languages
  • Agencies managing translated client sites with translator teams

Features

Automatic string detection

The addon finds untranslated text strings across your site and lists them, so you can see what still needs translating without searching through files.

Site structure translation

Translate text that lives outside post and page content, including menu labels, widget titles, error messages, and theme and plugin strings.

Works with WPML packages

Integrates with the WPML Multilingual CMS and Agency packages, so string translations are managed inside the familiar WPML interface.

Manual string registration

Register hard-to-find strings yourself, including text used in settings and user profiles, so they can be translated like everything else.

Send strings to translators

Pass strings to translators through the Translation Management dashboard, which helps teams share work and review translations in one place.

Admin screen translation

Translate admin screen texts as well as front-end elements, giving site managers a consistent experience in their own language.

Detection for logged-out visitors

Optionally detect untranslated strings when visitors are logged out, which catches text that only appears on the public side of the site.

Questions about WPML String Translation

Do I need WPML to use this addon?

Yes. It is an extension that integrates with the WPML Multilingual CMS and Agency packages, and string translations are managed inside the WPML interface. It adds string translation to WPML rather than working on its own.

Can I translate text from my theme and other plugins?

Yes. The addon covers theme and plugin texts along with other strings outside post and page content, such as menu labels, widget titles and error messages. You translate them from the WordPress dashboard instead of editing PO files.

What if a string does not show up in the list?

Some strings are hard to find, such as those used in settings or user profiles. You can register these manually so they become translatable. You can also enable detection for logged-out visitors to catch text that appears only on the public side.

Can I send strings to professional translators?

Yes. Strings can be sent to translators through the Translation Management dashboard, which keeps collaboration and review in one place for teams handling multilingual sites.

Is WPML String Translation free?

The code of WPML String Translation is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan or a single purchase gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.

Which version of WPML String Translation is this?

Version 5.1.0, released Oct 1, 2026. New versions appear here when the developer publishes them, and members get them as automatic updates.

How do I update WPML String Translation?

Install the free GPL Feast Updater on your site and connect it with your API key. It installs new versions of WPML String Translation automatically and keeps a backup, so you can roll back.
