BuddyPress Member Types Pro
BuddyPress Member Types Pro by BuddyDev is a plugin for sorting the people in a BuddyPress community into member types. Each type can carry its own WordPress role, group memberships, profile fields, directory and redirects, so students and teachers or employers and employees each get a setup that fits them.

What it does
A BuddyPress site with different kinds of members often needs different handling for each group. Employers and job seekers may need separate registration questions, and teachers may belong in different groups than students. This plugin lets you define member types and attach rules to them. Users can hold a single member type or several, which helps when your community has overlapping roles or more complex membership structures.
Everything is managed from the WordPress dashboard under Users > Member Types. From there you can link a type to a WordPress role, a WooCommerce Memberships plan, a Paid Memberships Pro level or BuddyPress groups, and the plugin applies those automatically. Profile and registration fields can appear only for certain types, and shortcodes control which front-end content each type sees. It requires BuddyPress and suits learning platforms, membership sites and professional networks.
Best for
- BuddyPress communities with distinct groups of members
- Online learning sites separating students and teachers
- Job or professional networks with employers and employees
Features
Profile fields let users pick one member type or several, so you can support simple categories or more layered membership structures in the same community.
WordPress user roles are assigned or changed in sync with member type updates. Super Admin roles are left untouched by these automatic changes.
Link member types to WooCommerce Memberships plans and Paid Memberships Pro levels, so the matching membership is associated with a user automatically.
Users are added to or updated in BuddyPress groups based on their member type, which keeps each segment of your community in the right spaces.
Show or hide profile and registration fields depending on the member type, so each person only fills in the questions that apply to them.
Turn member type directories on or off, adjust their slugs, control directory tabs and manage which members are visible in listings.
Use shortcodes to show or hide front-end content for one or more member types, letting you target messages and sections to specific audiences.
Send users to different pages after login or account activation based on their member type, pointing each group to the part of the site meant for them.

Questions about BuddyPress Member Types Pro
Can one user belong to more than one member type?
Yes. The plugin offers both singular and multiple member type fields. You can limit users to one type or allow them to hold several, which is useful when people fill more than one role in your community.
Does it work with WooCommerce Memberships or Paid Memberships Pro?
It does. You can associate WooCommerce Memberships plans and Paid Memberships Pro levels with member types, and the plugin assigns them automatically. It also links member types to WordPress roles and BuddyPress groups.
Will automatic role changes affect my admin accounts?
Super Admin roles are excluded from the automatic role changes. When a member type updates and triggers a role change, those accounts keep their existing permissions.
Can I show different registration fields to different member types?
Yes. Profile and registration fields can be displayed or hidden based on the user's member type, so each group sees a form with only the fields relevant to them. BuddyPress is required for this to work.
Is BuddyPress Member Types Pro free?
The code of BuddyPress Member Types Pro is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan or a single purchase gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.
Which version of BuddyPress Member Types Pro is this?
Version 1.5.6, released Sep 4, 2024. New versions appear here when the developer publishes them, and members get them as automatic updates.
How do I update BuddyPress Member Types Pro?
Install the free GPL Feast Updater on your site and connect it with your API key. It installs new versions of BuddyPress Member Types Pro automatically and keeps a backup, so you can roll back.
What does BuddyPress Member Types Pro need?
BuddyPress Member Types Pro needs BuddyPress installed and active.
