What it does
Open registration invites spam accounts and sign-ups from people who have no reason to join. That is a real problem for schools, companies and private communities that only want members from specific organizations. This plugin checks the email address entered at registration against rules you set. You can limit sign-ups to a domain such as example.com, to an extension such as .edu or .org, or to specific addresses, and anyone who does not match sees an error message you write yourself.
The plugin requires BuddyPress and also works with WordPress core registration, Multisite, BuddyBoss Platform, WooCommerce, WP Members, UsersWP, Paid Memberships Pro, Easy Digital Downloads and the User Registration plugin, among others. On WooCommerce stores it can limit who registers as a customer, which helps B2B and members-only shops. For unusual cases, regular expressions let you write precise matching rules, and a developer hook fires when an email fails validation so you can trigger custom notifications or actions.
Best for
- Schools and universities limiting sign-ups to .edu addresses
- Company intranets open only to staff email domains
- Membership communities and B2B stores screening new accounts

Questions about Restrict Email Domains
Can I allow only one domain, like my company's email domain?
Yes. You can restrict registration to a specific domain such as example.com, so only people with an address on that domain can sign up. You can also add individual addresses or whole extensions like .edu or .org if you need broader rules.
Does it work with my membership or store plugin?
It works with WordPress core registration, BuddyPress, BuddyBoss Platform, WooCommerce, WP Members, UsersWP, Paid Memberships Pro, Easy Digital Downloads, the User Registration plugin and others. BuddyPress is required for the plugin to run.
What happens when someone registers with an email that isn't allowed?
Their registration is stopped and they see an error message, which you can customize from the dashboard settings. Developers can also use the wpresed_email_domain_validation_failed hook to send notifications or run other actions when this happens.
