What it does
The default WordPress revision system tracks post titles and content, but it ignores the custom fields many sites depend on. If a landing page, project entry or product record stores most of its data in Meta Box fields, an accidental edit to those fields leaves no history behind. This extension fills that gap by saving custom field data alongside each revision, so you can see every change and roll back to an earlier state when something goes wrong.
Setup happens in your Meta Box configuration. You add 'revision' => true to a field group, and the plugin handles backups, change tracking and restoration from there. It works with every field type, including groups and cloneable fields, which it compares as JSON-encoded data so the differences stay readable. Change details appear below the post title and content in the standard revisions screen. That makes it a good fit for sites edited by several people, where a clear record of who changed what helps prevent lost or unwanted edits.
Best for
- Sites built on Meta Box custom fields
- Multi-author sites with several people editing content
- Developers and agencies building data-heavy client sites

Shows detailed change logs below the post title and content on the revisions screen, highlighting additions, removals and modifications at a granular level.
Restore previous custom field values in one click, which helps you recover from accidental edits or undo changes you did not want.
Turn tracking on by adding 'revision' => true to your Meta Box configuration, and the plugin then manages backups, tracking and restoration automatically.

Questions about MB Revision
Does this plugin need Meta Box to work?
Yes. It is an extension for Meta Box and tracks the custom fields you create with it. You need Meta Box active on your site, and you enable revision tracking inside your Meta Box field configuration.
Can it track groups and cloneable fields?
It can. The plugin supports all Meta Box field types, including groups and cloneable fields. It compares that data in JSON-encoded form so the differences between revisions remain clear and human-readable on the revisions screen.
How do I turn on revision tracking for my fields?
You add 'revision' => true to your Meta Box configuration. Once that setting is in place, the plugin automatically backs up custom field data, tracks changes and makes earlier values available to restore.
Where do I see the changes made to custom fields?
Changes appear in the standard WordPress revisions screen, listed below the post title and content. The comparison highlights what was added, removed or modified, and you can restore an earlier set of field values from there.
Is MB Revision free?
