What it does
Out of the box, a WordPress category or tag only has a name, a slug and a description. That is often too little when you want each term to carry its own image, color, icon or meta title. This plugin fills that gap by letting you attach custom fields to any taxonomy term. It uses the native WordPress term meta API, so the data is stored the way WordPress core expects, and the fields appear inside the regular term editing screens in the admin.
It requires the Meta Box plugin and follows the same syntax and interface, so if you already register fields with Meta Box, the setup will feel familiar. All Meta Box field types are supported, along with cloning and validation. Typical uses include term featured images, category colors for a magazine layout, SEO meta tags, category-specific templates and controlling membership post visibility by taxonomy. It can also act as a block bindings source for taxonomy fields.
Best for
- Developers already building custom fields with Meta Box
- Magazine sites that color code or illustrate categories
- Agencies building taxonomy-driven sites for clients
Features
Add custom fields to categories, tags or any custom taxonomy, giving each term extra data beyond its name and description.
Field values are saved through the WordPress term meta API, keeping the data compatible with WordPress core functions.
Register term fields with the same coding structure Meta Box uses for posts, so there is little new to learn.
Use every Meta Box field type, from simple text and checkbox fields to images and cloneable groups, on your taxonomy terms.
Clone fields to store repeated values and apply validation rules so the data entered on each term stays consistent.
Custom fields appear within the standard term editing screens, so editors work in an interface they already know.
Taxonomy fields can serve as a block bindings source, letting blocks display values stored on your terms.
