What’s new in PayPal Express 1.4.4
Version 1.4.4 · Jul 8, 2020

What it does
Membership sites need a payment method that members already know and trust, and one that can bill them again on a schedule. PayPal Express gives Paid Member Subscriptions that option. Members can check out using their PayPal account balance, a linked bank account or a stored payment method, and you can sell memberships as one-time purchases or as recurring subscriptions with multiple billing cycles. The addon also covers everyday membership tasks such as handling cancellations and upgrading members to a different plan.
The addon works as an extension of Paid Member Subscriptions, so you need that plugin running on your site. If you do not have a PayPal account yet, the onboarding process lets you create and connect one during setup. On the PayPal side, you get fraud monitoring, a real-time account updater that refreshes lost, stolen or expired card details, and support for international payment regulations. Transactions can be tracked from one dashboard, and the checkout is built to work on mobile devices as well as desktops.

Questions about PayPal Express
Do I need Paid Member Subscriptions for this addon to work?
Yes. PayPal Express is an addon for the Paid Member Subscriptions plugin, so it extends that plugin with PayPal payments rather than working on its own. You need Paid Member Subscriptions set up on your site first.
Can I charge members on a recurring basis?
Yes. You can offer recurring subscriptions with multiple billing cycles, as well as one-time purchases. The real-time account updater also refreshes expired or replaced card details, which helps recurring payments go through.
What if I don't have a PayPal account yet?
The addon includes an onboarding process that lets you create a PayPal account and connect it during setup, directly within your website, so you don't need to arrange a separate connection beforehand.
How can my members pay at checkout?
Members can use their PayPal account balance, bank accounts linked to PayPal, or saved cards. Payment methods can be stored securely for faster repeat purchases, and the checkout works on mobile devices.
Is PayPal Express free?
The code of PayPal Express is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan or a single purchase gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.
Which version of PayPal Express is this?
Version 1.4.4, released Jul 8, 2020. New versions appear here when the developer publishes them, and members get them as automatic updates.
How do I update PayPal Express?
Install the free GPL Feast Updater on your site and connect it with your API key. It installs new versions of PayPal Express automatically and keeps a backup, so you can roll back.
What does PayPal Express need?
PayPal Express needs Paid Member Subscriptions installed and active.
