What it does
Community and membership sites often need a way for members to talk privately without swapping email addresses or moving to another app. This add-on works with the UsersWP plugin and places a one-on-one chat system inside your WordPress site. The interface is modeled on familiar chat apps like Facebook Messenger, so members can start a conversation from a Message button on the user directory, on a profile page or in the messaging sidebar. A Messages tab on each profile lists recent conversations so people can pick up where they left off.
Site owners get a set of controls for keeping chats respectful. You can cap message length, filter out specific words with the profanity filter, and blacklist users who troll or spam. Members can block people themselves and choose who may message them: Everybody, Nobody, Friends or Followers. Unread message alerts go out by email and can be customized. You can also adjust chat colors and visual elements to match your branding, and the add-on is responsive on phones and tablets and fully translatable for multilingual sites.
Best for
- Membership sites built on UsersWP
- Niche communities and small social networks
- Multilingual sites needing private member messaging
Features
Members chat privately in real time through an interface styled after popular messaging apps, started from a Message button on directories, profiles or the sidebar.
Each user picks who may send them messages from their account: Everybody, Nobody, Friends or Followers, giving members direct control over their inbox.
Administrators can blacklist troublesome users, and members can block individuals who send spam or unwanted messages, keeping the community calmer for everyone.
Set a list of words that are automatically restricted in messages, which helps keep conversations suitable for a family-friendly or professional community.
Define a character limit for messages so conversations stay short and readable, and long walls of text do not clutter the chat.
Customizable email notifications let members know when they have unread messages waiting, so replies are less likely to slip through the cracks.
A Messages tab in user profiles lists recent conversations, making it simple for members to find an earlier chat and continue it.
Adjust the message box color scheme and visual elements so the chat window matches the look of your site and brand.
