What it does

Many attacks on WordPress sites arrive as ordinary looking requests with dangerous code tucked into the address or other request data. This plugin acts as a lightweight web application firewall that checks each incoming request and blocks suspicious ones in the background. Its rulesets come from the 6G, 7G and 8G Firewalls, and they cover threats such as SQL injection, executable file uploads, directory traversal and user ID phishing. The default setup protects a site without any configuration work.

Because it runs on its own inside WordPress, it does not depend on Apache or server configuration files, so it works on Apache, Nginx and Windows servers as well as HTTPS sites. For people who want to tune things, every firewall pattern can be edited, added, disabled or removed, and rules can be tested before they go live. Pattern hit counts and bar graphs show what is being blocked, and email alerts report blocked requests as they happen.

Best for

  • Site owners who want firewall protection without setup work
  • Agencies managing WordPress sites on Nginx or Windows servers
  • Developers who want to write and test their own rules

Features

Background request filtering

Blocks SQL injection, executable file uploads, directory traversal and user ID phishing attempts while running quietly in the background of your WordPress site.

Editable firewall patterns

Edit, add, disable or remove patterns that target the request URI, user agent, IP address and other request details to match your own site.

Pattern testing before use

Test basic, advanced and custom firewall rules with one click before applying them, so you can check how they behave first.

Alerts and custom responses

Get email notifications about blocked requests and choose what blocked visitors receive, including custom messages, redirects and specific HTTP status codes.

Firewall statistics

See hit counts for each pattern and view bar graphs that show which rules are catching traffic, which helps when adjusting your setup.

IP whitelist and login protection

Whitelist trusted IP addresses to prevent false blocks and add protection to the WordPress login page against brute force attempts.

Maintenance tools

Restore defaults, reset patterns, clear statistics and manage firewall settings from built-in tools, with inline guidance shown on every settings screen.

Questions about BBQ Pro

Does this firewall work if my host uses Nginx instead of Apache?

Yes. The plugin runs independently and does not rely on Apache or server configuration files, so it works on Apache, Nginx and Windows servers. It also supports sites served over HTTPS.

Do I have to configure anything before it starts blocking attacks?

No configuration is required. The default rules start filtering requests right away. If you later want to adjust protection, you can edit, add, disable or remove individual patterns and test them before they apply to your live site.

How do I avoid blocking legitimate visitors by mistake?

You can whitelist trusted IP addresses so they are never blocked, and you can test rules before turning them on. Per pattern hit counts and bar graphs also show which rules are firing, which makes it easier to spot and adjust a rule that is too strict.

Is BBQ Pro free?

The code of BBQ Pro is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan or a single purchase gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.

Which version of BBQ Pro is this?

Version 3.9.1, released Aug 9, 2026. New versions appear here when the developer publishes them, and members get them as automatic updates.

How do I update BBQ Pro?

Install the free GPL Feast Updater on your site and connect it with your API key. It installs new versions of BBQ Pro automatically and keeps a backup, so you can roll back.
