What it does
WooCommerce shows product variations in plain dropdown menus by default. That works, but shoppers have to read through lists to find the color or size they want, and they cannot see what an option looks like before choosing it. Clever Swatches turns those attribute selectors into clickable swatches. A color attribute can show actual color chips, a pattern can show a small image, and sizes can appear as text buttons. Each variation can also have its own set of gallery images, so the product photos change to match the option a shopper picks.
The plugin works with WooCommerce variable products and needs WooCommerce to run. Setup happens in the settings without any coding. You can apply swatch settings globally to an attribute or adjust them for individual products, and you can keep a dropdown where swatches do not make sense. Swatches come in square or circular shapes and several sizes from small to large, with optional tooltips on hover.
