FixedAdmin: Fixes a style dependency for the content restriction metabox.
FixedAdmin: Fixes an issue which could prevent a previously selected download being set as selected in the content restriction metabox.

What it does

Many digital stores want to keep some content for paying customers or members, such as bonus files, tutorials or a private resource area. Doing this with a generic restriction plugin can mean juggling two systems. This add-on works inside Easy Digital Downloads, so access rules for your content sit alongside the products you already manage. It suits stores that sell digital products, memberships or exclusive downloads and want one place to handle who sees what.

Restrictions are set from a content restriction metabox in the WordPress editor. There you pick the downloads or user roles that should grant access to a page, post or download. When a visitor without permission arrives, you can display a message of your choice or send them somewhere else. This makes it practical to build members-only download sections, VIP content areas or extra material bundled with a product purchase.

Best for

Easy Digital Downloads stores offering members-only files
Sites selling memberships or subscription content
Creators bundling bonus content with digital product purchases

Features

Role-based access control

Restrict downloads, pages and posts by user role so that only the audience you choose can view or download that content.

Built for Easy Digital Downloads

Works as an add-on to Easy Digital Downloads, letting you manage digital products and content permissions together in the same admin area.

Choose what to restrict

Apply restrictions to the content types that matter for your store, including downloads, posts and pages, and leave everything else public.

Restriction by download

Select a download in the content restriction metabox so access to a page or post is tied to that specific product.

Custom access denied messages

Show a message you write when someone lacks access, such as a note explaining how to register, subscribe or purchase.

Redirect blocked visitors

Send users who are denied access to another page instead of showing a message, for example a product or sign-up page.

Editor metabox for permissions

Assign and change access rules from a metabox on each piece of content, so you can adjust permissions while editing.

Questions about EDD - Content Restriction

Does this work without Easy Digital Downloads?

No. It is an add-on built specifically for Easy Digital Downloads, so it relies on that plugin being active on your site. Its access rules connect to your Easy Digital Downloads products and to WordPress user roles.

What kinds of content can I restrict?

You can restrict pages, posts and downloads. Access can be limited by user role or tied to a specific download, which lets you build private sections for customers or members while keeping the rest of the site open.

What do visitors see if they don't have access?

You decide. The plugin can display a custom message that you write, such as an explanation of how to gain access, or it can redirect the visitor to another page on your site.

Can I use it for a membership or subscription site?

Yes. It supports stores that offer memberships or subscription plans by letting you show or hide content based on a user's role, so members-only downloads and VIP areas are straightforward to set up.

Is EDD - Content Restriction free?

The code of EDD - Content Restriction is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan or a single purchase gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.

Which version of EDD - Content Restriction is this?

Version 2.3.5, released Jul 13, 2026. New versions appear here when the developer publishes them, and members get them as automatic updates.

How do I update EDD - Content Restriction?

Install the free GPL Feast Updater on your site and connect it with your API key. It installs new versions of EDD - Content Restriction automatically and keeps a backup, so you can roll back.
