Gravity Forms Moderation
Gravity Forms Moderation is a WordPress add-on by Gravity Forms that screens form submissions for toxic and abusive language. It scores entries with Google's Perspective API, checks them against your own word lists, and then deletes flagged entries or holds them for review.

What it does
Any public form can attract insults, profanity or threats, and ordinary spam filters often let these through because the message itself looks valid. This add-on checks each Gravity Forms submission for harmful language and gives it a toxicity score between 0 and 1. You choose the threshold that counts as toxic and the attributes to watch, such as insult, profanity or threats. Entries that cross the line can be removed right away or moved to a separate Toxic Entries area, so your team does not have to read abusive content in the main entry list.
Scoring is handled by Google's Perspective API, which uses machine learning to judge the language in a submission. You can also add custom toxic words that flag any entry containing them, and these word lists work even without a Perspective API key. Beyond filtering, the add-on changes what happens after a flagged submission: you can show a different confirmation message, route notification emails to other recipients, or stop notifications for toxic entries. It runs inside Gravity Forms, so moderation settings sit alongside the form settings you already use.
Best for
- Sites running Gravity Forms with public contact or feedback forms
- Community sites collecting testimonials or user-submitted content
- Teams that want staff shielded from abusive form messages
Features
Submissions are analyzed with Google's Perspective API, which uses machine learning to detect harmful language such as insults, profanity and threats in form entries.
Set the sensitivity anywhere from 0, meaning not toxic, to 1, meaning highly toxic, so you decide how strict the filter should be for your forms.
Pick the specific kinds of abusive language to watch, including Toxicity, Insult, Profanity and Threats, and ignore the ones that do not matter for your site.
Add your own flagged words so any entry containing them is marked as toxic. Custom words can be used even when no Perspective API key is set.
Decide whether flagged submissions are deleted immediately or sent to the Toxic Entries list for later review, keeping harmful content out of your regular entries.
Show a custom confirmation message or send a different notification depending on whether a submission was judged abusive.
Send notification emails for toxic submissions to different recipients, or turn those notifications off entirely so they do not reach your usual inbox.
A gform_moderation_score filter lets developers override the toxicity score before it is saved to the entry meta.

Questions about Gravity Forms Moderation
Do I need Gravity Forms for this to work?
Yes. This is an add-on for Gravity Forms and works with the forms you build there. Moderation options appear in your form settings, and flagged submissions are managed from a Toxic Entries list in your WordPress dashboard.
Can I use it without a Perspective API key?
Yes, in part. Custom toxic word lists can be used without a Perspective API key, so entries containing your chosen words are still flagged. Machine learning scoring for attributes like insult, profanity and threats relies on the Perspective API, and the form settings show a notice when the key is missing or invalid.
What happens to a submission that gets flagged as toxic?
You choose. Flagged entries can be deleted right away or moved to the Toxic Entries list for review. You can also show a different confirmation message to the person submitting, and send, reroute or suppress the notification emails for that entry.
How do I control how strict the filtering is?
You set a toxicity threshold anywhere between 0 and 1 and choose which attributes to monitor, such as Toxicity, Insult, Profanity or Threats. A lower threshold flags more entries, while a higher one only catches clearly toxic content.
Is Gravity Forms Moderation free?
The code of Gravity Forms Moderation is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan or a single purchase gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.
Which version of Gravity Forms Moderation is this?
Version 1.3.0, released Oct 7, 2025. New versions appear here when the developer publishes them, and members get them as automatic updates.
How do I update Gravity Forms Moderation?
Install the free GPL Feast Updater on your site and connect it with your API key. It installs new versions of Gravity Forms Moderation automatically and keeps a backup, so you can roll back.
