Hierarchy Select
Hierarchy Select by FacetWP LLC is an add-on plugin for FacetWP that turns hierarchical taxonomies into a series of guided dropdown filters. Visitors pick a parent term, then a child term, narrowing results one depth level at a time.

What it does
Large category trees are hard to filter with a single list. When every parent and child term appears at once, visitors scroll through options that have nothing to do with what they want. This add-on splits the hierarchy into several dropdowns, each representing one level. A visitor chooses a top-level term first, and the next dropdown then offers only the relevant child terms, so the search moves step by step toward the right results.
It works as a facet type inside FacetWP, so you create it the same way as your other facets, set up the hierarchy levels and give each dropdown its own label. It handles custom post types and custom taxonomies, which makes it a fit for WooCommerce products, recipe categories, car listings and similar structures. The filters can be placed on listing pages built with Elementor, Beaver Builder, Bricks and other builders, and they respond to mobile and desktop screens.
Best for
- WooCommerce stores with nested product categories
- Directory and listing sites, such as car listings
- Recipe and content-heavy sites with deep category trees
Features
Visitors filter content one taxonomy level at a time, with each dropdown narrowing the choices shown in the next.
The natural structure of your taxonomy is split into multiple dropdowns, each covering a single depth level of the hierarchy.
Set a separate label for every depth level, so dropdowns can read as Make and Model, or Category and Subcategory, to match your content.
It works as a FacetWP facet type, sitting alongside the other facets in your existing faceted search setup.
Add the hierarchical filters to layouts built in Elementor, Beaver Builder, Bricks and other builders without writing code.
Use it with advanced content structures such as WooCommerce products, recipe categories or car listings, along with other custom taxonomies.
The dropdown filters adapt to different screen sizes, so the drill-down works for both mobile and desktop visitors.

Questions about Hierarchy Select
Do I need FacetWP for this to work?
Yes. Hierarchy Select is an add-on for FacetWP and works as one of its facet types. You create and configure it within FacetWP, and it filters the same listings your other FacetWP facets control.
Can I use it with WooCommerce product categories?
Yes. It supports custom post types and custom taxonomies, including WooCommerce products. A store with nested product categories can let shoppers choose a main category first and then pick from the relevant subcategories in the next dropdown.
Can I change the label on each dropdown?
Yes. Each depth level of the hierarchy can have its own label. That lets you name the dropdowns to match your content, for example a car site could label the first level by make and the second by model.
Will it work with my page builder?
The filters can be added to listing pages built with Elementor, Beaver Builder, Bricks and other page builders, so you can place the hierarchical dropdowns in your design without coding.
Is Hierarchy Select free?
The code of Hierarchy Select is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan or a single purchase gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.
Which version of Hierarchy Select is this?
Version 0.5.4, released Mar 23, 2026. New versions appear here when the developer publishes them, and members get them as automatic updates.
How do I update Hierarchy Select?
Install the free GPL Feast Updater on your site and connect it with your API key. It installs new versions of Hierarchy Select automatically and keeps a backup, so you can roll back.
