What it does

Many sites that collect user profiles eventually want a place where people can gather around shared interests. This add-on gives your users that space by letting them start their own groups directly on your site. Each group creator sets a name, description, banner image and rules, then picks whether the group is public, private or hidden. That choice controls who can see the group and who can join it, so open discussion areas and invite-only circles can live side by side.

Inside a group, members post text, links, YouTube videos and images, and others can comment, reply with images and like posts and comments. Group owners decide whether posts publish automatically or wait for approval, and they can assign moderators to handle posts and flagged content. Invite rights can be limited to site admins, group owners, moderators or opened to all members. Because it is built on UsersWP, which it requires, it fits into an existing UsersWP setup, and create group links or buttons can be placed anywhere with simple HTML or a page builder.

Best for

  • Community sites already using UsersWP

Questions about UsersWP Groups

Do I need UsersWP for this to work?

Yes. UsersWP Groups is an add-on for the UsersWP plugin and requires it. It builds on the user profiles and accounts that UsersWP manages, adding a groups layer where those users can create, join and take part in communities.

Can I keep some groups private from the rest of the site?

Yes. Every group can be set to Public, Private or Hidden. These options control who can see a group and who can join it, so you can run open discussion spaces alongside restricted or invite-only groups.

What can members post inside a group?

Members can post text, links, YouTube videos and images. Others can comment, reply with images and like both posts and comments. Posts and comments can also be flagged so moderators can review anything that breaks the group rules.

How do group owners keep discussions under control?

Owners can require approval before posts go live or let them publish automatically. They can assign moderators to manage posts and flagged content, and they can limit invite rights to admins, owners, moderators or allow all members to invite.

Is UsersWP Groups free?

The code of UsersWP Groups is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan or a single purchase gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.

Which version of UsersWP Groups is this?

Version 1.0.15, released Mar 30, 2026. New versions appear here when the developer publishes them, and members get them as automatic updates.

How do I update UsersWP Groups?

Install the free GPL Feast Updater on your site and connect it with your API key. It installs new versions of UsersWP Groups automatically and keeps a backup, so you can roll back.

What does UsersWP Groups need?

UsersWP Groups needs UsersWP installed and active.
