What it does
Every time a WordPress page loads without caching, the server runs PHP, queries the database and assembles the page from scratch. That repeated work adds load and slows response times, especially on busy sites or sites running heavy themes and plugins. This plugin stores the results of that work at several levels, including full pages, database queries, objects, fragments and REST API responses, so repeat requests can be answered from the cache instead of being rebuilt each time.
Beyond server-side caching, the plugin works on what the browser receives. It minifies HTML, CSS and JavaScript, removes unused CSS and JavaScript, moves render-blocking CSS, delays non-essential scripts and lazy loads images and Google Maps. It can convert images to WebP, compress files with Brotli, Gzip or Deflate, and push assets or whole HTML pages through a CDN. Cache purge logs and cache hit statistics help you see what is happening and adjust settings.
Best for
- Content-heavy WordPress blogs and news sites
- Sites running heavy themes or many plugins
- Agencies tuning performance across client sites
Features
Caches full pages, database query results, objects, fragments and REST API responses, so repeated requests skip work the server has already done once.
Lets visitors' browsers store static assets locally, which cuts down on what has to be fetched again on repeat visits.
Minifies HTML, CSS and JavaScript, strips unused CSS and JavaScript site-wide, and can cache selected external scripts locally for automatic minification.
Postpones non-essential JavaScript and moves render-blocking CSS into the HTTP body so the main content can render sooner.
Defers images and Google Maps until they come into view, and converts images to the WebP format to reduce file sizes.
Distributes cached assets through Content Delivery Networks and can deliver entire HTML pages from servers closer to your visitors.
Supports Brotli, Gzip, Deflate and other compression standards to shrink the files your server sends to browsers.
Provides detailed cache purge logs and cache hit rate statistics so you can spot unnecessary rebuilds and tune your setup.

Questions about W3 Total Cache Pro
What kinds of caching does this plugin handle?
It covers page caching, database caching, object caching, fragment caching, REST API caching and browser caching. Together these reduce how often WordPress has to rebuild pages, run database queries or regenerate API responses for repeat visitors.
Does it do anything for images?
Yes. It can lazy load images and Google Maps so they only load when they become visible, and it can automatically convert images to the WebP format to reduce their file sizes.
Can I use it with a CDN?
It integrates with Content Delivery Networks to distribute cached assets, and it offers full site delivery, which caches and serves entire HTML pages from servers closest to your visitors. Media can be pushed to the CDN while keeping custom attachment directories.
How can I tell whether the cache is working well?
The plugin includes performance analytics showing cache hit rates, along with cache purge logs. These let you check how often content is served from cache and find settings that trigger unnecessary cache rebuilds.
Is W3 Total Cache Pro free?
The code of W3 Total Cache Pro is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan or a single purchase gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.
Which version of W3 Total Cache Pro is this?
Version 2.10.7, released Oct 2, 2026. New versions appear here when the developer publishes them, and members get them as automatic updates.
How do I update W3 Total Cache Pro?
Install the free GPL Feast Updater on your site and connect it with your API key. It installs new versions of W3 Total Cache Pro automatically and keeps a backup, so you can roll back.
