WP Grid Builder Caching

by WP Grid Builder wpgridbuilder.com v1.2.1 Unlimited sites

WP Grid Builder Caching is an add-on for WP Grid Builder, made by Loic Blascos. It caches the results of asynchronous grid and facet requests in a dedicated database table, so repeat filtering on your grids can be answered from stored results instead of a fresh query each time.

What it does

Grids with facets send a new query every time a visitor clicks a filter, changes a sort or loads more results. On sites with large catalogs or complex filter setups, those repeated queries add up on the server. This add-on stores the queried content from those asynchronous requests in a custom database table. When the same filter combination is requested again, the stored result is returned, which reduces the work the server has to do for each interaction.

You stay in control of what gets cached and for how long. Specific grids or facets can be excluded, which is useful for search facets where visitors can type endless combinations. Cache lifespan can be set in the settings or through PHP filters, and the cache can be cleared globally or per page from the admin menus and the WordPress toolbar. Developers can also manage the cache with WP-CLI, and scheduled cron jobs purge expired entries on their own.

Best for

  • WP Grid Builder sites with many filterable grids
  • Stores and directories using complex faceted filtering
  • Developers managing site maintenance through WP-CLI

Features

Cached asynchronous requests

Stores the results of grid and facet filtering queries in a dedicated cache table, so repeated filter combinations are served from stored data.

Exclude grids or facets

Leave chosen grids or facets out of the cache, such as search facets that would otherwise store an unlimited number of filter combinations.

Adjustable cache lifespan

Decide how long cached content stays valid using the settings screen or PHP filters, balancing fresh results against fewer database queries.

Clear cache from the toolbar

Empty the whole cache or just the cache for a single page through the admin menus or the WordPress toolbar when content changes.

WP-CLI commands

Clear the entire cache, clear specific grids or templates, and clean up expired cache items directly from the command line.

Automatic expiry cleanup

Built-in cron jobs run on a schedule to remove expired cache entries, keeping stored results current without manual cleanup.

PHP filters for developers

Bypass the cache under certain conditions, change the lifespan, modify cleanup intervals or turn off the cron jobs entirely with PHP filters.

Admin bar shortcuts

Reach caching controls and the WP Grid Builder dashboard straight from the WordPress admin bar menu.

Questions about WP Grid Builder Caching

Does this work without WP Grid Builder?

No. It is an add-on for WP Grid Builder and caches the content and facets that WP Grid Builder grids and templates request. You need WP Grid Builder running on your site for the caching features to have anything to work with.

Can I stop certain filters from being cached?

Yes. You can exclude specific grids or facets from caching. A common case is a search facet, since visitors can type almost anything and caching every combination would fill the cache table with entries that rarely get reused.

How do I keep cached results from going stale?

You can set how long cached content remains valid in the settings or with PHP filters. Cron jobs also purge expired entries automatically, and you can clear the cache globally or for a single page from the admin menus or toolbar whenever you update content.

Will it work on a multilingual site?

Yes, the add-on supports multilingual setups, so grids and facets on sites serving more than one language can use caching. It is also tested for compatibility with recent PHP releases.

Is WP Grid Builder Caching free?

The code of WP Grid Builder Caching is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan or a single purchase gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.

Which version of WP Grid Builder Caching is this?

Version 1.2.1, released Oct 15, 2024. New versions appear here when the developer publishes them, and members get them as automatic updates.

How do I update WP Grid Builder Caching?

Install the free GPL Feast Updater on your site and connect it with your API key. It installs new versions of WP Grid Builder Caching automatically and keeps a backup, so you can roll back.
