What it does

Running an affiliate program means paying commissions on referred sales, and some of those referrals may not be honest. Affiliates can buy through their own links, send traffic from sites you never approved, or push spam and fraudulent orders that inflate their numbers. Checking every referral by hand takes time and is easy to get wrong. This add-on gives you a set of rules that monitor affiliate traffic and flag suspicious referrals automatically, so you can focus your review on the cases that need attention.

The add-on works inside the AffiliateWP core plugin, and all of its options live on the AffiliateWP settings page. You decide how each type of activity is handled. Self-referrals can be flagged or blocked, referrals from websites an affiliate did not list can be flagged, allowed or rejected, and you can set expected conversion rate ranges so affiliates outside them get flagged. It suits store owners and businesses on AffiliateWP who want clearer control over which commissions they pay.

Best for

  • Online stores running affiliate programs with AffiliateWP
  • Businesses paying commissions that want to block self-referrals
  • Program managers reviewing suspicious affiliate traffic

Features

Self-referral controls

Flag or block referrals where affiliates earn commissions on their own purchases, so commissions go to sales that came from other customers.

Unlisted website monitoring

Choose to flag, allow or reject visits and referrals coming from websites the affiliate has not specified, which helps cut down on spammy or unauthorized traffic.

Conversion rate thresholds

Set an expected range for affiliate conversion rates and automatically flag affiliates whose rates are unusually high or low, a sign of possible card fraud or spam.

Automated referral flagging

The add-on keeps monitoring affiliate traffic and flags suspicious referrals on its own, while legitimate commissions continue to be recorded as usual.

Settings in AffiliateWP

All fraud prevention options are managed from the AffiliateWP settings page, so you can adjust each rule to fit how your program runs.

No extra tools needed

It works directly with the AffiliateWP core plugin, so you can add fraud checks to your program without bringing in third-party services.

Questions about Fraud Prevention

Does this work on its own or do I need AffiliateWP?

It is an add-on for the AffiliateWP core plugin. It works inside AffiliateWP and its settings appear on the AffiliateWP settings page, so you need AffiliateWP running on your site to use it.

Can I flag suspicious referrals instead of blocking them outright?

Yes. Self-referrals can be flagged or blocked, and referrals from unlisted websites can be flagged, allowed or rejected. Affiliates outside your conversion rate range are flagged, so you can review them before deciding what to do.

How does the conversion rate check help catch fraud?

You set an expected range for affiliate conversion rates. When an affiliate's rate is unusually high or low compared to that range, the add-on flags them. Odd rates can point to issues such as credit card fraud or spam traffic.

Is Fraud Prevention free?

The code of Fraud Prevention is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan or a single purchase gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.

Which version of Fraud Prevention is this?

Version 1.0.3, released Apr 23, 2025. New versions appear here when the developer publishes them, and members get them as automatic updates.

How do I update Fraud Prevention?

Install the free GPL Feast Updater on your site and connect it with your API key. It installs new versions of Fraud Prevention automatically and keeps a backup, so you can roll back.
