What it does

Directories that accept listings from users tend to collect repeats over time. Someone adds a business that is already there, or submits the same place twice with small changes. Cleaning that up by hand takes time and leaves visitors looking at cluttered results. This add-on compares a new submission with what is already in your database, using fields such as the post title, address, zip or post code, phone number and email address, and shows a warning when it finds a match.

The check runs through Ajax, so users see the alert while filling in the form without a page reload. As an administrator, you choose which fields are checked and write your own warning text for each field, or use one general notice instead. If you also run the GeoDirectory Custom Post Type add-on, each listing type can have its own duplicate settings and messages. The plugin requires the GeoDirectory plugin to work.
