What’s new in Gravity Perks PayPal One-time Fee

Version 2.0.beta1.1 Latest
  • FixedRemoved empty translatable string.

What it does

PayPal Standard does not natively support one-time setup fees for subscriptions. That gap is a problem for web hosts, membership sites and any service that charges an initiation fee before regular payments begin. This perk works around it by using PayPal's trial period feature to simulate a one-time fee, so the first payment includes the upfront charge while the recurring amount stays as you set it.

Configuration happens inside the PayPal feed settings in Gravity Forms, so there is no separate screen to learn. You choose whether the fee comes from individual product fields or the full form total, and the recurring amount is calculated separately. It works with new and existing PayPal Standard subscription feeds. Note that this functionality has since been built into the Gravity Forms PayPal Standard Add-on, which is worth knowing if you already use a current version of that add-on.

Best for

  • Web hosts charging a setup fee with monthly plans
  • Membership sites with an initiation fee
  • Gravity Forms users billing through PayPal Standard subscriptions

Features

One-time fee on first payment

Adds a setup or initial fee to the first payment of a PayPal Standard subscription, working around a limitation PayPal Standard has on its own.

Product field or form total

Pick individual product fields or the full form total as the source of the one-time fee, so billing matches how your form is built.

Separate recurring amount

The recurring subscription amount is calculated apart from the one-time fee, keeping each billing cycle clear and charged at the right amount.

Settings in the PayPal feed

Fees are managed directly from the PayPal feed settings in Gravity Forms, which keeps setup simple and does not call for advanced technical skills.

Uses PayPal trial periods

The perk relies on PayPal's trial period feature to simulate a one-time fee, giving you behavior PayPal Standard does not provide natively.

Works with existing feeds

You can apply one-time fees to new PayPal Standard subscription feeds as well as feeds you have already set up on your forms.

Prevents trial period conflicts

When the one-time fee is turned on, the regular trial period options are disabled so the two settings cannot clash and cause payment errors.

Questions about Gravity Perks PayPal One-time Fee

Why can't I just add a setup fee in PayPal Standard?

PayPal Standard does not natively support one-time setup fees on subscriptions. This perk fills that gap by using PayPal's trial period to simulate the fee, so the first payment includes the extra charge and later payments use the regular recurring amount.

Can I still use a trial period alongside the one-time fee?

No. Because the fee is built on PayPal's trial period feature, the trial period options are disabled when the one-time fee is enabled. This prevents conflicts and keeps the payment amounts accurate.

Do I need to rebuild my existing subscription forms?

No. The one-time fee can be applied to both new and existing PayPal Standard subscription feeds, and you configure it from the PayPal feed settings in Gravity Forms.

Is this feature available in Gravity Forms already?

This functionality has since been integrated into the Gravity Forms PayPal Standard Add-on. If you use a version of that add-on that includes it, you may not need this perk separately.

Is Gravity Perks PayPal One-time Fee free?

The code of Gravity Perks PayPal One-time Fee is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan or a single purchase gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.

How do I update Gravity Perks PayPal One-time Fee?

Install the free GPL Feast Updater on your site and connect it with your API key. It installs new versions of Gravity Perks PayPal One-time Fee automatically and keeps a backup, so you can roll back.
