What’s new in Marker Cluster 2.3.4
- FixedMarker cluster icon not hidden on zoom in.
What it does
Directory sites with many listings often end up with maps covered in overlapping pins. Visitors struggle to click the right marker or get a sense of where listings actually are. This add-on solves that by combining markers that sit close together into one cluster icon. As someone zooms in, clusters break up to show more detailed locations, and clicking a cluster zooms into that area and reclusters the markers there. The result is a cleaner map that stays readable at every zoom level.
The plugin requires GeoDirectory and works with both Google Maps and OpenStreetMap. You can pick client-side rendering, suited to small and medium directories, or server-side rendering, which is built for very large datasets and is described as handling up to one million markers. Grid size and zoom settings can be adjusted for each individual map. It also works alongside the GeoDirectory Custom Post Types and Custom Map Styles add-ons, so clustering fits the rest of your directory setup.
Best for
- GeoDirectory sites with large numbers of listings
- Business and local directories with crowded maps
- Agencies building map-heavy directory sites
Features
Listings that sit close together on the map are grouped into a single cluster marker, cutting down clutter on maps with dense data.
For small to medium directories, clustering can run in the visitor's browser so the map responds quickly as people pan and zoom.
Large directories can switch to server-side rendering, designed for massive datasets with less data sent to the browser, scaling up to one million markers.
Fine-tune when and how markers cluster by changing grid size and zoom settings, configured separately for each map on your site.
Clicking a cluster zooms into that area and reclusters the markers there, so visitors can drill down without losing their place on the map.
Clustering works with both Google Maps and OpenStreetMap, so you can use whichever map provider suits your project.
The plugin integrates with GeoDirectory's Custom Post Types and Custom Map Styles add-ons, keeping clustered maps consistent with the rest of your directory.

Questions about Marker Cluster
Do I need GeoDirectory to use this plugin?
Yes. Marker Cluster is an add-on for GeoDirectory and requires it to be active. It clusters the listing markers shown on GeoDirectory maps and works with its Custom Post Types and Custom Map Styles add-ons.
Which map providers does it support?
It supports both Google Maps and OpenStreetMap. You can choose the provider that fits your project, and clustering, zooming into clusters and reclustering work on either one.
Can it handle a directory with a very large number of listings?
It offers server-side rendering for large datasets, which is described as scaling up to one million markers. Smaller and medium directories can use client-side rendering instead, which clusters markers directly in the browser.
Can I control how markers group together?
Yes. You can adjust the grid size and zoom settings that decide when and how markers cluster, and these can be set for each individual map rather than applying one setting everywhere.
Is Marker Cluster free?
The code of Marker Cluster is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan or a single purchase gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.
Which version of Marker Cluster is this?
Version 2.3.4, released Mar 26, 2026. New versions appear here when the developer publishes them, and members get them as automatic updates.
How do I update Marker Cluster?
Install the free GPL Feast Updater on your site and connect it with your API key. It installs new versions of Marker Cluster automatically and keeps a backup, so you can roll back.
What does Marker Cluster need?
Marker Cluster needs GeoDirectory installed and active.
