What it does
Default WordPress roles are broad, and changing them usually means writing code. This plugin gives you a settings screen where you adjust capabilities role by role. You can control access to posts, pages, custom content types, categories, tags and any other taxonomy, with separate Manage, Edit and Assign permissions. Media permissions cover uploading, editing and deleting files, including the Featured Image box. Every change is backed up automatically, so you can roll back a mistake.
Beyond permissions, it helps you clean up the experience for each role. You can hide admin menus, toolbar links, dashboard widgets and admin notices, block admin pages by URL, and choose which elements appear in the Classic and Block Editors. On the frontend you can hide elements by ID or class, add CSS, and control navigation menu items for logged-in users, visitors and specific roles. It also covers WooCommerce permissions and multisite networks.
Best for
- Multi-author blogs and editorial teams
- WooCommerce stores with staff handling orders or products
- Agencies managing client sites and multisite networks
Features
Build new user roles from scratch or duplicate existing ones, then adjust their capabilities on a single site or across a multisite network.
Set what each role can publish, edit, delete or read across posts, pages and custom content types, with Manage, Edit and Assign rights for any taxonomy.
Choose which elements each role sees in the Classic Editor and the Block Editor, keeping editing tools out of reach for users who should not use them.
Hide admin menus, toolbar links, dashboard widgets and admin notices per role, and block specific admin pages by URL for roles that should not reach them.
Hide page elements by ID or class, add custom CSS or body classes per role, and show navigation menu items only to logged-in users, visitors or chosen roles.
Control role access to WooCommerce products, orders, coupons and store taxonomies such as product categories and shipping classes.
Working with PublishPress, decide which roles can move posts into specific custom statuses as part of an editorial workflow.
Each change to roles and capabilities is backed up automatically, so you can restore an earlier setup if something goes wrong.

Questions about PublishPress Capabilities Pro
Can I limit what my shop staff can do in WooCommerce?
Yes. The plugin lets you set role permissions for WooCommerce products, orders and coupons, along with store taxonomies such as product categories and shipping classes. That way staff can handle the parts of the store they work on without access to everything else.
Does it work on a WordPress multisite network?
It does. You can create and copy roles across a multisite network, sync permission settings across all sites, or customize permissions for each site individually, depending on how you run the network.
What happens if I change a permission by mistake?
Every change you make to roles and capabilities is backed up automatically. If an edit causes problems, you can go back to an earlier saved setup instead of rebuilding the role by hand.
Can I hide parts of the dashboard from certain users?
Yes. You can hide admin menus, toolbar links, dashboard widgets, admin notices and profile fields per role, and block specific admin pages by URL. This keeps the backend simpler for users such as clients or contributors.
Is PublishPress Capabilities Pro free?
The code of PublishPress Capabilities Pro is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan or a single purchase gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.
Which version of PublishPress Capabilities Pro is this?
Version 2.53.0, released Oct 14, 2026. New versions appear here when the developer publishes them, and members get them as automatic updates.
How do I update PublishPress Capabilities Pro?
