What it does
Selling tickets for a seated event gets messy when attendees cannot pick a specific spot and you have no clear picture of which seats are taken. This addon solves that inside Modern Events Calendar. You design a general seating layout to use across all events, or create a custom plan for a single event when the room is set up differently. Rows can carry their own labels, so larger venues with several zones stay easy to read for both you and your buyers.
Each seat can be marked as bookable, non-bookable or hidden, which lets you block off reserved areas or remove seats that do not exist for a given setup. Ticket types can be tied to individual seats or whole rows, so VIP sections and regular seating can sit side by side. Layouts are built with a canvas seat map builder, plans can be exported and imported for reuse, and a shortcode displays a map preview. It suits theaters, conference halls, concerts, festivals and workshops already running Modern Events Calendar.
Best for
- Theaters and concert venues selling assigned seats
- Conference halls and workshop organizers using Modern Events Calendar
- Festival organizers with VIP and regular seating zones
Features
Create one general seating layout for all events, or build a separate plan for a specific event when the venue arrangement changes.
Mark each seat or row as bookable, non-bookable or completely hidden, giving you control over which spots attendees can choose.
Assign different ticket categories to individual seats or entire rows, useful for separating VIP areas, regular seating and lower priced sections.
See your venue plan at a glance, with color-coded availability and counts such as empty seats, so you can follow booking progress.
When attendees hover over a seat during booking, a tooltip shows details about that seat to help them choose.
Build detailed seating arrangements with a label for each row, keeping different seating zones clear and distinct on the map.
Export seating charts and import them into the main settings or into specific events, so you can reuse layouts without rebuilding them.
Generate report sheets listing all booked seats, giving you an organized record of reservations for check-in and planning.

Questions about MEC Seat
Does this work on its own or do I need another plugin?
It is an addon for the Modern Events Calendar plugin, so you need that plugin running on your site. The seating features plug into its event booking system and work alongside its other features and addons, including its WooCommerce integration for ticket sales and payments.
Can I charge different prices for different seats?
Yes. You can set up distinct ticket types and assign them to specific seats or entire rows. That lets you price a VIP section differently from regular seating or offer a lower priced area, all on the same seating map.
Can each event have its own seating layout?
Yes. You can design a general layout used across all events and also customize a seat plan for an individual event. Exporting and importing plans makes it easy to copy a layout into the main settings or into a specific event.
Can I keep certain seats from being booked?
Each seat can be set as bookable, non-bookable or hidden. Non-bookable works well for reserved or blocked spots, while hidden removes a seat from the map entirely when it is not part of that event's setup.
Is MEC Seat free?
The code of MEC Seat is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan or a single purchase gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.
Which version of MEC Seat is this?
Version 2.0.0, released Jul 5, 2026. New versions appear here when the developer publishes them, and members get them as automatic updates.
How do I update MEC Seat?
Install the free GPL Feast Updater on your site and connect it with your API key. It installs new versions of MEC Seat automatically and keeps a backup, so you can roll back.
