Private Content

by Ultimate Member ultimatemember.com v2.1.5 Unlimited sites

Ultimate Member - Private Content is a WordPress plugin extension by Ultimate Member. It gives every user on your site a private content area that only they can see. Admins write and manage that content in the WordPress dashboard, and members find it on their profile or wherever you place a shortcode.

What’s new in Private Content 2.1.5

Version 2.1.5 · Nov 18, 2024 Latest
  • FixedLoad textdomain just in time issue.

What it does

Membership sites, client portals and educational platforms often need to show one person information that nobody else should see, such as notes, files, instructions or progress updates. Building separate restricted pages for each member gets messy quickly. This extension adds a dedicated private content area for each user inside the WordPress admin, so you can write and update individual content from the familiar backend without any coding.

Once content is assigned, it appears in a private content tab on that member's profile page. Only users who have private content will see the tab, which keeps other profiles tidy. You can rename the tab, change its icon or turn it off entirely, and the [um_private_content] shortcode lets you display a member's private content on any page you choose. It works as an add-on to the Ultimate Member plugin, so it fits sites already using it for profiles and memberships.

Best for

  • Membership sites built with Ultimate Member
  • Client portals sharing individual information with each client
  • Educational platforms giving students personal material

Features

Private area for each user

Every user gets a dedicated private content area in the WordPress admin, so you can manage unique content for each member separately.

Edit in the WordPress backend

Add and update private content through the standard WordPress admin screens you already know, with no coding required to assign content to a member.

Shortcode for flexible placement

Use the [um_private_content] shortcode to display the logged-in user's private content on any page or post across your site.

Private content profile tab

A private content tab appears on each member's profile page, giving them direct access to the content you have prepared for them.

Tab shows only when needed

Only users who have private content assigned will see the tab, so profiles of other members stay clean and uncluttered.

Custom tab name and icon

Change the profile tab's name and icon to match the wording and look of your site.

Option to disable the tab

Turn off the profile tab if you prefer to show private content only through the shortcode on pages you control.

Questions about Private Content

Does this work without Ultimate Member?

No. It is an extension for the Ultimate Member plugin and adds its private content features to Ultimate Member user profiles, so you need Ultimate Member running on your site.

Can I show private content somewhere other than the profile page?

Yes. The [um_private_content] shortcode lets you place a member's private content on any page or post. You can also disable the profile tab if you want the shortcode to be the only way members reach their content.

Will every member see an empty private content tab?

No. The tab only appears for users who have private content assigned to them. Members without private content will not see it on their profile, which keeps the interface clean.

Do I need to write code to assign content to users?

No. Each user has a private content area in the WordPress admin where you add and edit their content through the normal backend, so no coding is needed.

Is Private Content free?

The code of Private Content is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan or a single purchase gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.

Which version of Private Content is this?

Version 2.1.5, released Nov 18, 2024. New versions appear here when the developer publishes them, and members get them as automatic updates.

How do I update Private Content?

Install the free GPL Feast Updater on your site and connect it with your API key. It installs new versions of Private Content automatically and keeps a backup, so you can roll back.
