What it does
Community and membership sites depend on people noticing when someone interacts with them. Without alerts, a reply or a profile view can go unseen until the member happens to check back. This extension adds a notification system to Ultimate Member that uses AJAX to check for new activity and display it live. Members get updates about role changes, comments on their posts, replies to their comments and visits to their profile, and an unread count appears in the browser tab.
The plugin also covers activity from other parts of a site. It can notify users about replies on bbPress forum topics they created or posted in, and it works with Ultimate Member extensions such as User Reviews and myCRED for reviews, ratings and point awards. Admins choose which notification types are active, members choose which ones they want, and everyone gets a notifications page for reviewing and deleting past alerts. Site owners can also set how often the plugin checks for new notifications.

Does this work on its own or do I need Ultimate Member?
It is an extension for the Ultimate Member plugin, so it adds notifications to a site that already uses Ultimate Member for profiles and membership. The alerts it sends are based on activity tracked through Ultimate Member and its supported extensions.
What kinds of activity trigger a notification?
Core alerts cover role changes, comments on a user's posts, replies to their comments and profile views. With bbPress, users hear about replies to their topics. With User Reviews and myCRED, they get alerts about reviews, ratings and point awards.
Can members turn off notifications they don't want?
Yes. Admins decide which notification types are available on the site, and each user can then choose which of those they want to receive. Users can also delete old notifications from their notifications page.
Will constant checking for notifications slow my server?
The plugin lets you configure the delay between checks for new notifications. A longer interval means fewer requests, so you can set a value that suits your hosting environment and the size of your community.
