What’s new in wpDiscuz 7.6.72

Version 7.6.72 · Oct 7, 2026 Latest
  • FixedA comment whose image was refused for its width or height was saved anyway, and the error message was empty. The `wpdiscuz_mu_preupload` action now fires before the comment is saved, so a file it refuses stops the comment.
  • FixedThe on/off switches on the settings page showed their state by color alone and could not be used from the keyboard. They now show a cross when off and a check mark when on, and can be reached with Tab and toggled with Space. Switches in addon settings tabs get the same fix.

What it does

The standard WordPress comment form is basic, and many site owners turn to hosted platforms like Disqus or Jetpack Comments to get more. Those services can move your discussion data off your site. This plugin takes a different route: it builds on the native WordPress comment system, so comments live in your own database and work with the usual WordPress moderation and security tools, while adding modern layouts, nested threads and real-time updates.

Out of the box you get three comment layouts, a customizable form with custom fields, star ratings for posts, comment voting, and inline commenting that lets readers respond to specific passages of text. Readers can subscribe to replies, log in through social networks such as Facebook and Twitter, or comment anonymously if you allow it. Built-in spam protection, GDPR-minded settings and an add-on library for emoticons, mentions, media uploads and front-end moderation round it out.

Best for

  • Bloggers who want livelier, threaded comment sections
  • Business sites that prefer keeping comment data in WordPress
  • Community sites hosting active reader discussions

Features

Real-time AJAX commenting

Comments are submitted and updated without page reloads, and live notifications let readers know when new comments or replies appear in the thread.

Inline commenting on content

Readers can comment directly on post content and reply to specific pieces of text, which suits detailed feedback and close discussion of an article.

Voting and post ratings

Visitors can upvote or downvote individual comments to bring helpful replies forward, and rate whole posts with stars for an extra layer of feedback.

Social and anonymous commenting

Let people comment by signing in through social networks like Facebook and Twitter, or optionally allow comments without a required name and email.

Nested threads and lazy loading

Multi-level nested comments use adjustable depth settings, and comments can load through a Load More button or as visitors scroll down the page.

Custom comment forms

Tailor the comment form with custom fields and quick tags so it collects the information your site needs, alongside a choice of three layouts.

Time-limited comment editing

Logged-in users and guests can edit their own comments within a timeframe you define, so small mistakes can be fixed after posting.

Subscriptions and spam protection

Comment authors can subscribe to reply notifications, while built-in anti-spam measures help keep unwanted comments out of your discussion threads.

Questions about wpDiscuz

Will my comments be stored on an outside service?

No. The plugin works with the native WordPress comment system, so comments are kept in your own WordPress database. It is also compatible with WordPress comment management and security features, so you moderate comments the usual way.

Can readers comment on a specific part of an article?

Yes. Inline commenting lets readers comment directly on post content and reply to specific text. This is useful for long articles, tutorials or drafts where feedback on a particular passage is more helpful than a general comment at the bottom.

Do visitors need an account to leave a comment?

Not necessarily. You can enable social login through networks like Facebook and Twitter, and there are optional settings that allow anonymous comments without a mandatory name and email. You decide how open the comment section should be.

Can I add features like emoticons or image uploads?

Yes, through add-ons. The add-on library covers emoticons, user mentions, media uploading, front-end moderation and more, so you can extend the comment section beyond the core features as your needs grow.

Is wpDiscuz free?

The code of wpDiscuz is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.

Which version of wpDiscuz is this?

Version 7.6.72, released Oct 7, 2026. New versions appear here when the developer publishes them, and members get them as automatic updates.

How do I update wpDiscuz?

Install the free GPL Feast Updater on your site and connect it with your API key. It installs new versions of wpDiscuz automatically and keeps a backup, so you can roll back.
