What it does
If you share ebooks, course materials, PDFs or other digital products through Download Monitor, you probably need more than a simple public link. This extension adds a layer of access control so you decide exactly who can download each file. Rules can target user roles, named users or IP addresses, and you can cap how many times a file is downloaded or limit access to a set date range. That makes it practical to offer usage-based plans, such as a fixed number of downloads, in place of a plain time-based membership.
Rules work at two levels. Global rules apply across the site, and you can override them on any single download when one file needs different treatment. Everything is managed from one place in the dashboard, with no coding needed. The extension also works alongside membership and content restriction plugins, so it fits eLearning platforms, membership sites and digital storefronts. It is multisite and network compatible too, which helps if you manage downloads across several sites in one network. It requires Download Monitor to run.
Best for
- Sites selling ebooks, PDFs or other digital files
- eLearning platforms and membership sites using Download Monitor
- Multisite networks that share downloadable resources
Features
Create rules that restrict downloads to particular user roles, specific individual users or certain IP addresses, so each file reaches only the people you choose.
Set site-wide download restrictions once, then override them on individual downloads whenever a single file needs its own access settings.
Cap how many times a file can be downloaded, which supports usage-based subscriptions or purchases built around a set number of downloads.
Allow downloads only within specific date ranges, useful for time-limited offers, course windows or content meant for a set period.
Works alongside membership and content restriction plugins, letting your download rules sit next to the access setup you already use on your site.
Runs on WordPress multisite installations, so you can manage download access across multiple sites within the same network.
Manage all your access rules from one location in the dashboard without writing code or needing technical knowledge.

Questions about Advanced Access Manager
Does this work on its own or do I need another plugin?
It is an extension for Download Monitor, so you need that plugin running on your site. The extension adds access rules on top of the downloads you already manage there, including limits by role, user, IP address, download count and date range.
Can I set one rule for the whole site and change it for certain files?
Yes. You can create global rules that apply to every download on the site, then override them on individual downloads. This lets you keep a sensible default while giving specific files tighter or looser access when needed.
Can I sell a set number of downloads instead of a time-based membership?
Yes. You can restrict access by the number of downloads or by specific date ranges. That makes it possible to offer usage-based plans, such as a fixed download allowance, in place of a standard membership tied only to time.
Will it work with my membership plugin or on a multisite network?
The extension is described as compatible with membership and content restriction plugins, so your download rules can work alongside your existing access setup. It is also multisite and network compatible for managing downloads across several sites.
