What’s new in Downloads Addon 1.6.0
Version 1.6.0 · Jul 14, 2026
Latest
- SecurityPrevented attachment ID enumeration in the force-download handler by verifying the requested file belongs to a public gallery.
- ImprovedAdded file-path validation to the force-download handler.
What it does
Many photographers and artists want visitors to keep copies of certain images, such as event photos, press shots or shared artwork. Without a download option, people end up right-clicking, taking screenshots or emailing to ask for files. This addon puts a download control right in the gallery, so visitors can save the photo directly to their computer or phone. You stay in charge of what can be saved, since downloading can be allowed for some images and left off for others.
The addon works inside Envira Gallery, so it fits sites that already use Envira to display photo collections. Downloads run through a force-download handler, which saves the file to the visitor's device instead of just opening it in the browser. That handler checks that each requested file belongs to a public gallery and validates file paths, which helps keep private attachments from being fetched by guessing IDs. It suits portfolios, client sharing pages and any site where images are meant to be shared.
Best for
- Photographers sharing event or client photos
- Artists who offer images for visitors to keep
- Sites already displaying collections with Envira Gallery
Features
One-click image downloads
Visitors can save a photo from your gallery to their device with a single click, with no right-clicking or screenshots needed.
Control over downloadable images
Choose which images visitors are allowed to download, so you can share some photos freely while keeping others view-only.
Full quality files
Visitors receive the actual image file from your gallery, so they get high-quality photos instead of low-resolution screen captures.
Force-download handling
Downloads are served through a dedicated handler that saves the file directly to the visitor's device rather than opening it in a browser tab.
Public gallery checks
The download handler verifies that a requested file belongs to a public gallery, which prevents people from pulling other attachments by guessing their IDs.
File path validation
Requested file paths are validated before a download is served, adding another safeguard around which files on your site can be delivered.
Built for Envira galleries
The addon extends Envira Gallery, adding download options to the photo galleries you already build and manage with it.

Questions about Downloads Addon
Do I need Envira Gallery to use this addon?
Yes. This is an extension for Envira Gallery, so it adds download options to galleries you create with Envira. It is meant to be used alongside that plugin rather than on its own.
Can I stop certain photos from being downloaded?
Yes. You control which images are downloadable. That lets you offer some photos for visitors to save while keeping other images in the same site available for viewing only.
Could someone use the download feature to grab files that are not in my galleries?
The download handler checks that each requested file belongs to a public gallery and validates the file path before serving it. These checks are designed to block attempts to fetch other attachments by guessing their IDs.
Will the image open in the browser or save to the device?
The addon uses a force-download handler, so the image is saved straight to the visitor's computer or phone instead of simply opening in a new browser tab.
Is Downloads Addon free?
The code of Downloads Addon is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan or a single purchase gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.
Which version of Downloads Addon is this?
Version 1.6.0, released Jul 14, 2026. New versions appear here when the developer publishes them, and members get them as automatic updates.
How do I update Downloads Addon?
Install the free GPL Feast Updater on your site and connect it with your API key. It installs new versions of Downloads Addon automatically and keeps a backup, so you can roll back.
