What’s new in GravityView - Magic Links 1.3.0

Version 1.3.0 · Oct 1, 2026 Latest
  • ImprovedFaster request form submissions, with magic links now created and emailed in the background (on some servers, the email may take a few minutes to arrive).
  • SecurityMagic links now work only for the entry, View, and action they were created for, and link details are kept out of logs and away from other sites.
  • ImprovedThe request form now follows the View's email validation settings, so a View set to "Don't validate by email field" with an empty Allowed Emails list sends links only through notifications.
  • FixedIssues with the {gv_magic_link} merge tag: Tags inserted from the Gravity Forms merge tag menu produced no output; Confirmations displayed the link's HTML as text, and plain-text notifications included link markup; Delete links did not work when the tag output a plain URL; Links were created for Views that were disabled, unpublished, or connected to a different form.
  • FixedEmail addresses were not recognized as matching when their capitalization differed.
  • FixedMagic links did not work for some email addresses.
  • FixedAn error occurred on PHP 8 when opening a malformed magic link URL.
  • FixedEach new entry stored its magic link twice.

What it does

Asking visitors to create an account just to fix a typo in a form submission adds friction, and many people simply give up. This add-on removes that step. When a user submits a form, the plugin creates a unique link tied to their entry and sends it by email. Opening that link lets them update their submission directly, with no username or password to remember.

You stay in control of who can use these links. You can validate requests against email addresses or limit them to specific email domains, and you can set how long both the link and the editing window stay valid. Links are bound to the entry, View and action they were created for. It works inside GravityView, so it suits event registrations, surveys, applications and similar forms where people may need to correct what they sent.

Best for

  • Event registration sites where attendees update their details
  • Organizations collecting applications that applicants may need to revise
  • GravityView sites running surveys without user accounts

Features

Unique time-limited edit links

Each user receives a link that opens their own form entry for editing, so they can make changes without creating an account or logging in.

Email address validation

Restrict who can request an edit link by checking the request against verified email addresses before a link is sent.

Domain restrictions

Allow edit link requests only from specific email domains, which helps when a form is meant for one organization or group.

Expiration settings

Set separate expiration times for how long a link stays valid and how long the editing window remains open after it is used.

Automatic email delivery

Magic links are sent by email when a form is submitted or when a user requests one through the request form.

Merge tag for notifications

Use the {gv_magic_link} merge tag to place a magic link inside Gravity Forms notifications and confirmations.

Links scoped to one entry

Each link works only for the entry, View and action it was created for, keeping access limited to the right submission.

Questions about GravityView - Magic Links

Do my users need an account to edit their entries?

No. After submitting a form, users receive a unique link by email that opens their entry for editing. They do not need to register, log in or remember a password to make changes.

Can I control who is allowed to request an edit link?

Yes. You can validate requests against email addresses or limit them to specific email domains. A View can also be set so links are sent only through notifications instead of the request form.
