What it does
The default search in WordPress and Easy Digital Downloads looks at a limited set of product information, which means shoppers can miss items that match what they typed. This extension connects your EDD catalog to SearchWP, which indexes product details, taxonomies, custom fields and even PDF content. A customer searching for a term buried in a custom field or an attached document can still turn up the matching download.
Once your products are indexed, you decide how results are weighted and ordered. You can push featured products or seasonal deals higher, reorder results by keyword, and hide outdated or irrelevant items and pages. Live search suggestions appear as visitors type, and search forms can be placed with Gutenberg blocks or modal popups. Search analytics show what people are looking for, which helps you adjust your catalog and content over time.

- Easy Digital Downloads stores with large digital catalogs
- Sellers of ebooks, PDFs and other document-based products

Questions about SearchWP EDD
Does this work on its own, or do I need SearchWP?
It is an extension for SearchWP, so it works alongside the main SearchWP plugin. It also relies on Easy Digital Downloads, since its job is to bring your EDD products into the SearchWP index and search results.
Can shoppers find products by text inside PDF files?
Yes. Along with product details, taxonomies and custom fields, the extension indexes PDF content. That means a search term appearing inside an attached PDF can return the related download in results.
Can I control which products appear first in search?
You can adjust result weighting to favor featured products or seasonal deals, and reorder results by keyword or other criteria. You can also exclude outdated or irrelevant products and pages so they no longer show up.
Is it GDPR compliant?
The product description states that it is GDPR compliant, which helps if your store serves customers who expect their data to be handled under those privacy rules.
Is SearchWP EDD free?
The code of SearchWP EDD is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan or a single purchase gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.
Which version of SearchWP EDD is this?
Version 1.1.0, released Feb 4, 2023. New versions appear here when the developer publishes them, and members get them as automatic updates.
How do I update SearchWP EDD?
Install the free GPL Feast Updater on your site and connect it with your API key. It installs new versions of SearchWP EDD automatically and keeps a backup, so you can roll back.
