wpDiscuz - Private Comments
This add-on by gVectors Team lets commenters on a wpDiscuz-powered site mark comments as private. A private thread stays visible only to the comment author, moderators and site administrators, so sensitive feedback and one-to-one exchanges can happen right under your posts.

What it does
Public comment sections are a poor fit for some conversations. A reader may want to share personal details, ask a question meant only for staff, or send feedback that should not be posted for everyone. This add-on gives those conversations a place on the same page. A commenter can mark a comment as private while writing it, or a parent comment can be switched to private afterward. From then on, only the author, moderators and administrators can see the thread.
The add-on works inside the wpDiscuz commenting system and uses its AJAX-based interface, so the experience stays consistent with the rest of your comments. Site owners decide which user roles can make comments private and which roles moderate those threads. Private comments can be turned on or off for specific comment forms or post types, and moderators get email alerts when new private comments arrive. It suits community sites, membership portals and company blogs.
Best for
- Membership portals that need confidential member feedback
- Community sites with sensitive or personal discussions
- Company blogs collecting private input from readers
Features
Comments marked private are visible only to the comment author, moderators and site administrators, keeping sensitive conversations out of public view.
An icon next to the submit button marks a comment private while writing, and a Private button on parent comments lets you switch them after posting.
Settings let you limit the ability to mark comments as private to specific user roles, giving you control over who uses the feature.
You can assign particular user roles to moderate private comment threads, so the right people oversee these conversations.
Enable or disable private comments on specific wpDiscuz comment forms or post types, which helps on sites that mix different kinds of content.
Moderators receive customizable email alerts whenever a new private comment is posted, so they know when a private thread needs attention.
The private comment features adapt to different screen sizes and support right-to-left languages for sites published in those languages.

Questions about wpDiscuz - Private Comments
Do I need wpDiscuz for this to work?
Yes. This is an add-on for the wpDiscuz commenting plugin and builds on its AJAX-based comment system. It adds private comment options to your existing wpDiscuz comment forms rather than working as a standalone comment system.
Who can see a private comment?
A private comment thread is visible to the person who wrote the comment, to moderators and to site administrators. Other visitors and regular users do not see it, while public comments on the same post display as usual.
Can I stop some users from making comments private?
Yes. Role-based settings let you choose which user roles are allowed to mark comments as private. You can also pick which roles moderate private threads and turn the feature off for specific comment forms or post types.
How will moderators know a private comment was posted?
The add-on sends customizable email notifications to moderators whenever a new private comment arrives. This helps your team respond to private conversations without checking the comment section manually.
Is wpDiscuz - Private Comments free?
The code of wpDiscuz - Private Comments is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan or a single purchase gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.
Which version of wpDiscuz - Private Comments is this?
Version 7.1.0, released May 15, 2025. New versions appear here when the developer publishes them, and members get them as automatic updates.
How do I update wpDiscuz - Private Comments?
Install the free GPL Feast Updater on your site and connect it with your API key. It installs new versions of wpDiscuz - Private Comments automatically and keeps a backup, so you can roll back.
