What it does

Busy comment sections attract spam, rude replies and posts that wander off topic, and checking every comment by hand takes time. This add-on hands part of that job to your readers. Each comment gets a flag button, and visitors can use it to mark anything that needs a moderator's attention. You can keep it simple with one-click flagging, or switch to a pop-up report form where people choose a category and describe the problem.

The plugin also acts on those reports. When a comment reaches the number of flags or downvotes you set, it can be unapproved or moved to the trash without waiting for a moderator. Email alerts tell you about new reports and about comments that hit the limit. It works as an extension of wpDiscuz, so it suits sites already using that comment plugin and wanting moderation that scales with their community.

Best for

  • Blogs and news sites with active wpDiscuz comment sections
  • Community sites that want readers to help moderate
  • Site owners short on time for manual comment review

Features

Flag button on comments

Every comment shows a flag button that lets readers mark spam, offensive content or off-topic posts for a moderator to review.

Two reporting modes

Pick simple one-click flagging, or a pop-up report form where users select a category and add a description of the issue.

Automatic comment moderation

Comments that reach a set number of flags or downvotes can be unapproved or sent to the trash automatically.

Custom report categories

Add, edit or remove the bad comment categories shown on the report form so the options match the kinds of problems your site sees.

Email notifications

Get alerts with details about new reports and when a comment reaches the maximum number of flags or dislikes.

Editable email subject and content

Change the wording and subject line of notification emails so they read the way you want them to.

Guest reporting control

Choose whether visitors without an account are allowed to flag or report comments, or limit reporting to registered users.

Translatable front-end phrases

Each phrase visitors see can be translated individually, which helps when your comment section runs in a language other than English.

Questions about wpDiscuz - Report and Flagging

Do I need wpDiscuz for this to work?

Yes. This is an add-on built only for the wpDiscuz comment plugin, so wpDiscuz has to be running on your site. It adds flagging, reporting and automatic moderation on top of the comment system wpDiscuz already provides.

Can flagged comments be hidden without me checking them first?

Yes. You set a threshold of flags or downvotes, and once a comment reaches it the plugin can unapprove it or move it to the trash automatically. You also get an email when a comment hits that limit, so you can review it later.

Can visitors explain why they are reporting a comment?

In the detailed mode, a pop-up report form lets users pick a category and write a description. You control the category list, adding, editing or removing entries. If you prefer less friction, the simple mode just records a flag with one click.

Can I stop guests from reporting comments?

Yes. There is a setting that decides whether visitors without accounts can flag or report comments. Turning it off limits reporting to logged-in users, which can help cut down on misuse.

Is wpDiscuz - Report and Flagging free?

The code of wpDiscuz - Report and Flagging is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan or a single purchase gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.

Which version of wpDiscuz - Report and Flagging is this?

Version 7.1.0, released May 15, 2025. New versions appear here when the developer publishes them, and members get them as automatic updates.

How do I update wpDiscuz - Report and Flagging?

Install the free GPL Feast Updater on your site and connect it with your API key. It installs new versions of wpDiscuz - Report and Flagging automatically and keeps a backup, so you can roll back.
