What it does

Running a forum alongside a paid membership often means keeping some conversations for subscribers only. Without a link between the two systems, you end up with forums that anyone can open or with manual workarounds. This addon closes that gap. It reads the membership levels you have set up in Paid Memberships Pro and lets you attach them to your wpForo boards, so access follows each member's level automatically.

Setup happens inside your forum settings. You edit a forum and choose which membership levels may access it, and the same applies to whole categories and nested sub-forums. Hidden membership levels also appear in the access settings, so you can use them too. Typical uses include premium support boards, exclusive Q&A sections and special-interest groups. Visitors without the right level cannot view or take part in the restricted areas, and the controls work within wpForo's responsive layout.

Best for

  • Membership sites running wpForo with Paid Memberships Pro
  • Course creators offering private student discussion boards
  • Businesses providing premium support forums to subscribers

Features

Access by membership level

Restrict forums, categories and sub-forums according to Paid Memberships Pro membership levels, so only members with an assigned level can view and participate.

Full forum hierarchy support

Apply restrictions to a single forum, an entire category or nested sub-forums, giving you fine control over which parts of the board each level can reach.

Settings inside the forum editor

Edit any forum and assign access permissions to each membership level directly, without a separate configuration area or complicated setup.

Members-only discussion spaces

Create private boards for paying members, such as premium support forums, exclusive Q&A sections or special-interest groups tied to specific subscription levels.

Hidden levels in access settings

Membership levels marked as hidden in Paid Memberships Pro still show up in the forum access settings, so you can assign them to forums as well.

Blocks unauthorized visitors

Users without a qualifying membership level are prevented from viewing or posting in the restricted forums, keeping paid content limited to the intended members.

Works with responsive wpForo layouts

The access controls operate within wpForo's responsive design, so restrictions apply the same way for members on phones, tablets and desktops.

Questions about wpForo Paid Memberships Pro

Can I restrict a whole category instead of each forum one by one?

Yes. The addon supports wpForo's full forum hierarchy, so you can limit access to an entire category as well as individual forums and nested sub-forums. This lets you lock a whole section for one membership level while leaving other areas open.

What plugins do I need for this to work?

You need both the wpForo forum plugin and the Paid Memberships Pro membership plugin. The addon connects the two, using your Paid Memberships Pro levels to decide who can access each forum, category and sub-forum in wpForo.

Can I use hidden membership levels for forum access?

Yes. Hidden membership levels from Paid Memberships Pro are displayed in the forum access settings, so you can assign them to forums just like your public levels. This is handy for private groups or levels you do not list openly.

What happens when a non-member tries to open a restricted forum?

Users who do not hold a qualifying membership level are prevented from viewing or participating in that forum. Only members with an assigned level can read and post there, which keeps your members-only discussions private.

Is wpForo Paid Memberships Pro free?

The code of wpForo Paid Memberships Pro is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan or a single purchase gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.

Which version of wpForo Paid Memberships Pro is this?

Version 1.2.0, released Sep 16, 2024. New versions appear here when the developer publishes them, and members get them as automatic updates.

How do I update wpForo Paid Memberships Pro?

Install the free GPL Feast Updater on your site and connect it with your API key. It installs new versions of wpForo Paid Memberships Pro automatically and keeps a backup, so you can roll back.
