What’s new in Download Monitor Google Drive 4.1.1
Version 4.1.1 · Jun 8, 2025
Latest
- NewPlugin requires both Download Monitor Lite and PRO to activate.
What it does
Hosting large files on your own server takes up storage, and plain Google Drive sharing links give you little say over who grabs a file. This extension sits between the two. You keep your files in Google Drive and add them as downloads inside Download Monitor. When you paste a Google Drive sharing URL, the extension detects it and converts it into a direct download link, so visitors get the file through your site instead of landing on a Drive page.
Because each file runs through Download Monitor, you can see who viewed and downloaded it and get email notifications when a download happens. You can change file access and content in data rooms without sending new links, which suits confidential client materials, internal documents, digital libraries and marketing collateral. Paired with Advanced Access Manager, downloads can also be limited by user role. The extension requires the Download Monitor plugin to be active on your site.
Best for
- Businesses sharing confidential client documents through data rooms
- Marketers distributing trackable lead generation assets
- Sites running digital libraries stored in Google Drive
Features
Google Drive files as downloads
Use files already stored in your Google Drive directly within Download Monitor, so you do not need separate file hosting for those assets.
Automatic direct download links
The extension detects Google Drive sharing URLs and converts them into direct download links that visitors use from your site.
Download tracking
See who has viewed and downloaded each file, giving you a clear record of how people interact with your documents.
Email notifications
Receive an email whenever someone downloads a file, which helps you follow up with leads or keep an eye on sensitive material.
Access changes without new links
Modify file access and content inside data rooms at any time, without having to resend links to the people you shared them with.
Role-based restrictions
When used together with Advanced Access Manager, you can restrict downloads by user role and decide which groups can get each file.
Branded download experience
Visitors interact with your own site rather than Google Drive directly, keeping your downloads under your brand.
Offloaded file storage
Serving files from Google Drive moves storage and file delivery off your own server, which reduces the space your hosting needs.

Questions about Download Monitor Google Drive
Do I need Download Monitor to use this?
Yes. This is an extension for the Download Monitor plugin, so Download Monitor must be installed and active. The extension adds Google Drive file support on top of the download management that Download Monitor already provides.
Will visitors be sent to Google Drive to get files?
No. The extension converts Google Drive sharing URLs into direct download links, so visitors download through your site. They interact with your branded environment instead of the Google Drive interface.
Can I see who downloaded a file?
Yes. Since each Drive file runs through Download Monitor, you can track who viewed and downloaded it. You can also turn on email notifications so you hear about each download as it happens.
