What it does
Many sites ask visitors to subscribe for updates, and few people do. Offering a useful file in exchange for an email address gives visitors a clear reason to sign up. This plugin handles that exchange for you. It locks selected downloads behind an email form, and instead of serving the file directly on the page, it sends a secure link to the address the visitor entered. Only people who submit a working email get access, which keeps your files away from unauthorized access and search engine scraping.
The plugin is an add-on for Download Monitor, so it works with the downloads you already manage there. Once addresses come in, you can see which emails were collected for each locked file and export your lists as CSV files for use in your CRM or email marketing tool. It is built with GDPR privacy standards in mind and runs on self-hosted WordPress.org sites and WordPress.com Business Plan sites. Setup and management happen through the WordPress admin, with no coding needed, and the email editors also allow code editing if you want finer control over messages.

Do I need Download Monitor for this to work?
Yes. This is an add-on for the Download Monitor plugin. It adds the email lock to downloads you create and manage in Download Monitor, so you will need that plugin running on your site.
How do visitors get the file after entering their email?
After a visitor submits the form, the plugin emails them a unique link to the file. Since the link goes to their inbox, only people who enter a working email address can reach the download.
Can I move the collected emails into my email marketing tool?
Yes. You can view the addresses collected for each locked download and export your lists as CSV files. Most CRMs and email marketing tools accept CSV imports, so you can bring the contacts over from there.
Will it work on WordPress.com?
It works on self-hosted WordPress.org sites and on WordPress.com sites using the Business Plan, which allows custom plugins. Other WordPress.com plans are not listed as supported.
