wpForo Groups
wpForo Groups by gVectors Team is an addon plugin that links the wpForo forum plugin with the Groups plugin. It lets you restrict access to forums, categories and sub-forums based on which groups a user belongs to, so you can run private, members-only discussion areas.

What’s new in wpForo Groups 1.1.0
- NewDropdown menu to set default forum access to all membership plans
What it does
A forum often needs areas that only some people can see. You might want a space for paying members, a board for one class of students, or a private room for staff. wpForo has its own permission system, but it does not tie forum access to group memberships managed elsewhere on your site. This addon fills that gap by using the Groups plugin as the source of membership, then applying those groups as access rules on your wpForo boards.
Setup happens inside wpForo. You edit an individual forum and link it to one or more groups you have already created with the Groups plugin. Only members of those groups can then view or take part in that forum. Rules can apply at the category, forum and sub-forum level, and a dropdown menu lets you set default forum access for all membership plans. It suits membership sites, educational platforms and niche communities that need different access for different members.
Best for
- Membership sites with paid or private forum areas
- Educational platforms giving each class its own forum
- Niche communities that need different access for member groups
Features
Restrict who can view or participate in a forum or category by assigning access permissions to specific groups from the Groups plugin.
Edit any individual forum and link it to the groups you want, so each board gets its own access rules.
Apply content restriction to categories, forums and sub-forums, matching access rules to the way your community is organized.
Build private forums where selected groups can talk while the content stays hidden from the general public.
Use a dropdown menu to set the default forum access for all membership plans instead of configuring each one separately.
Memberships and permissions are handled by the Groups plugin, so you manage who belongs where in one place and wpForo follows those rules.
Questions about wpForo Groups
What other plugins do I need for this to work?
You need the wpForo forum plugin and the Groups plugin. This addon connects the two: Groups manages your user groups and memberships, and wpForo uses those groups to decide who can see and participate in each forum.
Can I restrict only certain sub-forums instead of a whole category?
Yes. Access rules can be applied at the category, forum and sub-forum level, so you can keep a category open while locking specific forums or sub-forums to members of particular groups.
How do I choose which group can see a forum?
You edit the individual forum in wpForo and link it to the groups you created with the Groups plugin. Members of those groups get access, and everyone else is kept out of that forum.
Is there a way to set default access for all membership plans at once?
Yes. A dropdown menu lets you set the default forum access for all membership plans, which saves you from configuring each plan by hand.
Is wpForo Groups free?
The code of wpForo Groups is licensed under the GPL, so anyone may use, change and share it. GPL Feast is a paid service: a plan or a single purchase gives you the download and automatic updates. The developer's own support, licence key and online services are not included.
Which version of wpForo Groups is this?
Version 1.1.0, released Apr 26, 2024. New versions appear here when the developer publishes them, and members get them as automatic updates.
How do I update wpForo Groups?
Install the free GPL Feast Updater on your site and connect it with your API key. It installs new versions of wpForo Groups automatically and keeps a backup, so you can roll back.
